Icebreaker Art

25/1/2018

I'm working on another interactive display for my students (this time, just for my Grade 10 advisory). Link here.
Picture
Students will add numbered stickers to a scale. Each number will relate to a different prompt.
The prompts I have so far are:
  • Technology and globalization are destined to drive up inequality
  • Certain countries doomed to remain ‘emerging’
  • Human activity is the cause of global climate change
  • Freedom of speech should be 100% unrestricted
  • It is better to risk a guilty person going free, than to risk an innocent person being put in prison
  • Everyone should be required to learn a second language
  • Schools should have longer days, and no homework
  • Invisibility is a better superpower than flight
  • Graffiti is art
  • Robots will help created a better society
  • Video gaming should be considered a sport
  • The voting age should be lowered
I am not sure yet if I will give a student a print out of all the prompts, and have them add their stickers, without discussion first - then have a student discussion, (and possible add a second sticker for each to reflect any changes in their thoughts) OR if I will go prompt by prompt, and have them add their stickers after a class discussion. I'm excited about seeing this as a paper covered completely in colorful dots - eventually I want to do this with a bigger group too. I could also do one over a year, with the debatable questions in my units - OR I could do one focussed on the UN Global Goals or another with TOK prompts - my brain is itchy with ideas!

I am not 100% happy with the prompts I have so far, and I want more! What else should I add? Let me know in the comments. I'll also add a post with photographs once I have done this activity.

Hi Lenny,

Great resources as always : ) Some quick ideas from the top of my head!

Prompts:

1.Gender inequality is a myth not a reality.
2. We don't need teachers in the age of google and technology.
3. The world is at war because 80% of world leaders are men who lack the emotional intelligence that women possess.
