Living Infographic

Today I put up a Living Infographic in our school, so that students, staff and faculty could show the issues they are most passionate about. This was inspired by a living infographic I recently saw at a Creative Morning.

This display aims to start conversations and to show the wide variety of issues we care most about.

• Students, staff and faculty must first choose a color string which represents where they live
• They then attached their string to show their grade or if they are staff or faculty.
• They connect the other end of the string to the issue they most care about
• Optional: They then add a post it note to show how they aim to make a difference.

As more and more people add to it, the infographic builds up - the strings weave a pattern, showing who we are and what we care about. I've had many people stop in my office today to tell me how much they love this. I've also gone out and listened to our students discussing the display and talking about their chosen issues. It's been a great conversation starter and I cannot wait to make similar installations.

I've brainstormed ideas with some other teachers and the librarians, and we may make similar living infographics answering:

• Which issue do you think scientists need to try and solve first? (animal extinction, pollution...)
• Which genre do you enjoy reading the most? (one for the library!)
• What school problem do you want to solve? (bullying, littering, homework...)
• What Global Context is your Personal Project focussing on?
• What Approach to Learning (ATL) do you need to focus on developing most?
• What UN Global Goal are you most passionate about?
• What career do you hope to have day? (medical, entertainment, technical...)
• Which IB Learner Profile do they think is the most important? (Caring, Principled, Communicator...)
  

EDIT - Day Two Update
The display is filling up! It's only up one more week, so I will do a seperate post with final photos. I'm also going to add another colored piece of paper for post it notes at the end...as it is full!
