SlideDeck for MYP Newbies

Firstly I want to apologies to anyone who has been trying to reach me. I have been sick, so not online much. I had a lot of reports to write (ended up being almost 10,000 words) and other bits and bobs to do, so haven't even opened my email yet! I am starting to feel better, so should get back on top of stuff this weekend!

I put together a little slide deck for new teachers joining my school in August. They will be sent their subject guides and From Principles into Practice before, and will have this slide deck, just as a quick reference guide. Mostly I will use it to accompany the new staff training, (once a week, after-school, for most of the first year).

I know there are some things I have missed out, like IDUs, but I think I have got a lot of the key things in there. If you think any slides would really benefit from an explainer video, or if you have any great links to videos, websites, articles or docs, please send them my way.

I make the presentation using a template from SlideMania.

This works best in presenter mode - you should be able to click the drawers to go from section to section. Here is a link to the full presentation.

Hi Lenny,
I'm so sorry to hear that you've been sick! I hope you continue to heal and get stronger...

This is a great resource! Concise and clear. Perfect for incoming MYP teachers. And I love the slide deck style.

Thanks for including some of my animated videos!
I've just recently gotten access to them again, and am in the process of updating them to align with current MYP guidance. I've set up a new YouTube channel, as I no longer have access to that school channel, so when I post the updated videos there will be new links. See notes below.

If you find it to be helpful, below are a few suggestions for possible clarifications in a few sections:

Global contexts:
- Identifying a GC "exploration" is required, so it would be helpful to change the wording about this in Topic 6.

Statement of inquiry:
- Slightly changing the wording of the summary blurb may provide greater clarity.
For example, "Teachers use the key and related concepts, and the global context exploration to write a meaningful statement that summarizes the big picture for the unit. This should be a broad statement that does not refer to specific unit content."
In any guidance about the SoI, it would be really helpful to point out that it is the global context "exploration", not the global context title, that needs to be included in the SoI.
- I've updated the animated statement of inquiry video, and the new link is:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJDKDQvi_LU

Inquiry questions
- In the "Inquiry Questions Guidance" doc, including the table from Fpip may cause confusion regarding factual questions in light of workshop guidance about content-based questions.
- I am in the process of updating the animated inquiry questions video and will be cutting short the video that is linked here and redirecting viewers to the new channel link.
I'll send you the new link as soon as I post.

Assessment
Topics 13/14: I'm also updating all of my animated MYP assessment/grading videos and will be cutting short the videos that are linked here and redirecting viewers to the new channel links. As soon as they are posted, I'll send these new links too.

Take good care, stay safe.
Warmly, Diane

I am at a continuum school and have been teaching grade 3 for 6 years. I am moving to grade 7 Language and Literature this year and am excited and terrified! I just found this presentation and all of your resources and I think I love you! Thank you for putting this together- it will be so helpful to have all of these resources in one easy to navigate space.

I've done a lot of work with schools - From January I will be on maternity for a year, so I'll be flexible to work with schools (and I am in Stuttgart)

Good morning Lenny,

Hope you are well! I wanted to share how grateful I am for all the resources you create and share! Not only are they great but also extremely helpful. Again, thank you for all you do. Have a wonderful weekend. By the way, Los Angeles is very close to opening 😉. I will be visiting the restaurant you recommended soon.

Existing without the answers to the difficulties you've sorted out through the slide deck for myp newbies this guide is a critical case, as well as the kind which could have badly affected my entire career if i had not discovered your website.
